Physical Appearance, Personality, and Natural Descriptions
Welcome to Lesson Fourteen of Your Spanish Journey
Describing people is a turning point in language learning.
When you can talk about how people look and how they are, your Spanish becomes expressive, personal, and much more natural.
In this lesson, you will learn how to:
Describe physical appearance
Talk about personality
Use ser correctly for descriptions
Combine adjectives naturally
Speak more fluently with longer sentences
This lesson contains a lot of Spanish on purpose.
Read slowly. Repeat. Then speak.
👀 Why Descriptions Matter in Spanish
In real conversations, people constantly say things like:
¿Cómo es tu amigo?
¿Cómo es tu profesor?
¿Cómo es ella?
If you can answer these questions, your Spanish becomes descriptive and confident.
🧩 Describing Physical Appearance (Core Vocabulary)
Read each word slowly and repeat:
alto / alta → tall
bajo / baja → short
delgado / delgada → thin
fuerte → strong
🗣️ Practice:
Mi amigo es alto.
Mi hermana es baja.
📌 Remember: physical descriptions use ser.
💇 Hair and Eyes
Now add detail.
tiene el pelo largo → has long hair
tiene el pelo corto → has short hair
tiene los ojos cafés → has brown eyes
Examples:
Mi madre tiene el pelo largo.
Mi padre tiene los ojos oscuros.
📌 tener is used for hair and eyes.
😊 Describing Personality
These adjectives are extremely common:
simpático / simpática → friendly
amable → kind
trabajador / trabajadora → hardworking
serio / seria → serious
🗣️ Practice:
Mi jefe es muy trabajador.
Mi amiga es simpática.
🔑 Combining Physical + Personality Descriptions
This is where your Spanish starts to flow.
Read slowly:
Mi hermano es alto y muy simpático.
Mi profesora es seria pero amable.
📌 Use y / pero to connect ideas.
🗣️ Mini Dialogues (More Natural, Longer)

— ¿Cómo es tu amigo?
— Es alto y muy simpático.
— ¿Es trabajador?
